Back To School at Any Age!

I live among inspirational lifelong learners.  Our conversations consist of activities each is currently involved and even at ages upwards to 86, this includes classes, physical activities, books, current events, spiritual life and work.

In our main feature “Lifelong Learning,” by Linda Sechrist, we find that it’s never too late to take an evening drawing class, learn a language or take piano lessons. Adults of any age can find personal and professional benefits when they engage in what is termed “lifelong learning”. Lifelong learners are generally curious, self-motivated, and passionate individuals and the extended health benefits of this way of life are enormous.

In our Wise Words section this month titled “On Letting Nature Heal Itself,” by Sophia Ellis Kreider, the focus on Maria Rodale, bestselling author, activist and gardener Rodale is also a board member of Rodale Institute, a nonprofit dedicated to growing the regenerative organic agriculture movement through research, farmer training and education. She is the former CEO of Rodale Inc., the global health and wellness media company that has published notable books and magazines. Rodale leads readers through her relationship with the plants, animals and insects that inhabit her garden and shares the life lessons these often-misunderstood creatures taught her.

August Inspiration titled “Walking in Wonder,” by Marlaina Donato provides us with the inspiration to discover a new musical artist, learning about a country we never heard of and getting in touch with everyday miracles all around us like emerald moss discovered during a Sunday hike, waking up the child in us, the self that is impervious to pessimism. Donato helps us rekindle our wonderment and offers up inspirations with which to do so.

Using the Ayurveda lifestyle as an example, the belief is that our longevity rests in daily activity, healthy eating and living mindfully. We must keep our body lubricated with oils inside and out and daily movement through stretching, strength training and aerobic activity. Life doesn’t have to be complicated to be healthy. Think living simple and clean!

To conscious living,
